One (ok, maybe two) shot(s) every day. My first year of dailies has been amazing, albeit with some twists and turns. I started on a random day in March. I finished off at Dec. 31 just to make life easier. In this year shot my first wedding, my first set of senior portaits, dozens of bike races, several new buildings. I upgraded to full-frame with the D700, got laid off only to find another job within a week. And last but not least, baby Ashley came along in late november. The majority of the shots from November therefore are daily baby photos.

I did my best to shoot something interesting, and to share the how’s and why’s. Photoshop and Lightroom are awesome and my main tools for post processing.

Thanks for looking; thanks for all the comments.

Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 12-05 I managed to get Ashley to pose for me on 3 separate occasions today, so I thought I'd do a daily double. Thanks to my sis-in-law Tiffany for making this adorable hat!
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 12-04 If you've looked through my site at all, you'll realize these are probably my two most photographed subjects. It's a beautiful thing to get them together. My nephew Nolan is so great with Ashley.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 12-03 Ashley on her14th day. This is more the feeling I was going for last week with the one that is similar. Thanks again to my wife for making this happen on the business end of the camera. She's becoming an old pro at this :D
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 12-02 I came up with this one all by myself :D. Thanks to my wife for shooting it for me. I had her shoot directly into the umbrella to make the silhouette. I did a bit of touch up and darkening of the darks to get the effect I was going for. I liked that baby Ashley's face had more light than mine which makes her the focus :D.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 12-1 I didn't have time to set anything up with lights and sleeping Ashley today, so this is a candid. I lved the way the light was reflecting off her eyes from the window behind me.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-30 Thanks for all the comments on yesterday's shot! One thing that was mentioned was that there was no way she could look anything but calm and peaceful. Although still cute, she was anything but happy with her daddy for making her model...a trend for the future? Or just a stage?

Hopefully, I will have less and less of these...I got a couple more pointers from a news story I saw on Kelly Ryden and Tracy Raver (sisters out of Omaha). I need a couple more silly knit hats, and will being continuing to work on this series of my precious daughter's first weeks/months.

For post on this one I used SC again to emphasize that this was indeed the same child in the same outfit as yesterday. I played a bit with the blur filters until I got one that accentuated the feeling I was attempting here (are your ears ringing?). I did a selection of the face with a very soft edge prior to doing the blur filters.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-29 Congrats to my dad for finishing the Seattle 1/2 marathon! And also to my sister in law and brother for doing the full marathon! Hopefully, once things calm down a bit, I'll get back to training.

This is another shot of little Ashley. Doesn't she look cute and serene? This was about 30 seconds before she went balistic. My ears are still ringing.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-28 Ashley on her 9th day. It's hard, painstaking work to get her to sleep in this position. Once I got her comfy and sleeping, it was pretty easy to move her around...that is until it was time for food.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-27 Day 8 :D. We decided to go for a bit of tummy time today since she was alert and active. She didn't cry, and was able to pick her head up pretty well. She managed to get herself rolled over onto her back from here as well, but I think that had to do with the weight of her head more than anything else.

I'm too tired to do anything but watermark and a slight crop. Thanks for all your comments on this series! It's been a blast, and will continue to be a blast.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-26 Happy Thanksgiving everyone! And happy one week birthday to my little one! I'm having a blast taking her picture, and most of the time she's willing to cooperate :D.

I think this may be the first post where she's awake and moderately happy. This condition is mixing in a bit more frequently with the sleep, eat, scream cycle.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-25 Day 6 of our life with Ashley. Special thanks to my sis-in-law for guest shooting this for me. These are my hands cradling my beautiful baby girl.

We smushed some black background under my hands, fired up the lights, and shot a few of these trying to get the black in all the right places in the background. Tougher than it sounds.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-24 Ashley's 5th day in the world. For anyone who wishes to try any creative shots of newborns - All I can say is "Good Luck". My little precious is either eating, sleeping, or crying right now. My only chance is sleeping but the setup usually leads to screaming so the only chance I've got is when she switches sides during her eating and hasn't really caught on to me yet.

For this shot, I was going for her hands under her chin with her face toward me. This was as close as I could get. She woke up and was ready to eat again a few seconds later.

I set up a pair of lights, one on each side, and was hoping for just a hint of a shadow from left to right. Since she didn't go where I was hoping, my shadows went away. Post processing involved lightening up the whole thing just a bit. It was shot with my macro lens on a D700 so the background fades away beautifully.

My background is a $2 piece of fabric from goodwill. I went there for the first time in a long time...who knew? Newborns don't need a huge muslin :D.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-23 Ashley's 4th day. Seems like just yesterday that she was being born. Time's flying already.

I've been fortunate enough to find some amazing baby photogs out there to give me inspiration for some shots. I think I'm going to try to figure out how to do one of their shots each day for my dailies for the time that I'm home.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-22 My new most precious thing in the world (tied with my wife). My daughter on her 3rd day in the world.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-21 As expected, my dailies have taken on a whole new meaning. This shot is of my grandfather (baby's great grandfather) and my daughter on her second day of life. These are two of the most beloved people in my life, and having them spend some quality time together meant more than I can express in words.
