One (ok, maybe two) shot(s) every day. My first year of dailies has been amazing, albeit with some twists and turns. I started on a random day in March. I finished off at Dec. 31 just to make life easier. In this year shot my first wedding, my first set of senior portaits, dozens of bike races, several new buildings. I upgraded to full-frame with the D700, got laid off only to find another job within a week. And last but not least, baby Ashley came along in late november. The majority of the shots from November therefore are daily baby photos.

I did my best to shoot something interesting, and to share the how’s and why’s. Photoshop and Lightroom are awesome and my main tools for post processing.

Thanks for looking; thanks for all the comments.

Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-29 A trip up to the Skagit today. I had seen some folks with some amazing shorth eared owl pictures, and wanted some for myself. The owls were out when we got there around 9, and left by about 11. I got a few decent shots, but one series that was pretty amazing. The owl in the bottom right had been hunting to the south of us (backlit), and finally got up the nerve to fly over the dike to hunt the field to the north (hooray for sunlight). Almost immediately he dropped onto food and was busy chowing down when along came the northern harrier. The harrier descended upon the owl; and the owl decided it was time to leave. Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-28 I hung out with my in-laws today. My niece and nephew are such hams...
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-27 I went looking for owls in Lincoln park because I'd seen some amazing pictures of them there. The park is huge, and I could spend a lifetime looking for owls. There were lots of birds taunting me, but this was the only one that would hold still long enough for me to get a decent shot at him.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-26 I was a bit disappointed today that there was not a whole lot happening that was photo-worthy at my favorite bird spot. I saw this guy as I got out of the car, walked 50 feet, snapped a couple shots, then he flew away as I tried to creep up. This was the best I got, and was at least 50 yards away.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-25 Today it's looking more official. This time around we have a "dot with a flicker" as the doc put it. The pinkish spot here is our "dot". Hopefully, everything will go as planned and I'll have more of these to post in the near future!
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-24 Today was my first bike race of 2009 at Pacific Raceways (Auburn, WA). I showed up so early that the cars were still doing their thing, so I thought I'd snap a few shots. I tried to close down the aperture and get a nice panning shot, but I had ISO auto set for a min shutter of 1/100...oh well; I still got a bit of the effect I was going for before the cars finished up.

I managed to hang on until the end of the bike race; moving to the front with about 300m to go, then getting engulfed by the pack as they accelerated, and my legs objected.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-23 Today I went to my favorite area in Renton again on my lunch hour. Lots more herons today than even last Friday. I had my lens on this guy to find out why the racket, and he decided it was time to depart. Last time the geese left, the hawk flew over...no such luck today, but I thought the goose made for a pretty cool action shot.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-22 I dropped by Camp Long today to see if I could find the owl. Alas, no owls, but a nice stroll, and a couple birds. I also went to Alki beach, and got some photos of the birds down there - cormorants, grebes, a merganser, and a small flock of goldeneyes. Just cropping on this one. Photos from Alki are here - http://www.jefflynchphotography.com/gallery/7693424_Sr9qe/1/497049512_YPk3g
Thanks for looking, and for all your comments!!!
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-21 We spent the afternoon with my sister-in-law's kids. They are by far my favorite subjects!
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-20 I dropped by the Renton Riparian area today to try to find some more uses for my new favorite toy...a 200-400 f/4 of my very own! All the ducks and geese noisily cleared out, so I looked up, and this guy was cruising for easy food. Finding nothing of interest, he cruised off. I cropped this quite a bit, but was still impressed with the clarity for how far away it was. I'm sure I'll be able to approve upon this one over the course of the summer. Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009-03-19 I drove by Boeing field looking for some planes landing, but thought the trains were more interesting. I also caught a rabbit as I was leaving work, and an eagle that was hanging out near the freeway, but the train prevailed. I was surprised at the amount of background movement that I got with the wide open aperature and fast shutter that I used. Mostly, I think this is bokeh, but it's just enough motion to know that I was panning with the train.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009-03-18 I wandered around work today looking for something of interest. We push out tons of ductwork, so I thought I might try to make it look interesting. I think I learned a few things upon review, and need to try this again with some different angles, and some different focal points.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009-03-17 Today I dropped by Georgetown on my way home. This old building is doomed to be demolished in the very near future. I'll probably be stopping by again, hopefully before it goes down for the count. I played with the levels and added some vignetting in PS to move the focus to the window rather than the plain walls and give it a bit of moodiness.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009-03-16 Lame day again. Lots of rain, lots of wind. Not much too horribly intersting around the house. Which leaves macro photos. This one is of my cassette on my racing wheel. Looks like it's time for a cleaning. Thanks for all the comments!
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009-03-15 Today we made it safely back from Vancouver. Lots of driving, not much time for shooting. The weather was pretty turbulent, and I went looking for the rainbow that Anna saw. I missed the rainbow, but I thought the raindrops on the flowers were pretty cool. There wasn't quite enough light to get all of it in focus, so I went with something like f/8 and let the ones in the back fade slightly.
