One (ok, maybe two) shot(s) every day. My first year of dailies has been amazing, albeit with some twists and turns. I started on a random day in March. I finished off at Dec. 31 just to make life easier. In this year shot my first wedding, my first set of senior portaits, dozens of bike races, several new buildings. I upgraded to full-frame with the D700, got laid off only to find another job within a week. And last but not least, baby Ashley came along in late november. The majority of the shots from November therefore are daily baby photos.

I did my best to shoot something interesting, and to share the how’s and why’s. Photoshop and Lightroom are awesome and my main tools for post processing.

Thanks for looking; thanks for all the comments.

Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-26 I rainy miserable day in Seattle. I have pictures from the weekend coming out my ears anyway (soccer and birds) so here's another from yesterday's bird outing in the Skagit. This red-tailed hawk was pretty cooperative. He stuck around long enough to get some pretty close, clear shots.

Again, more from the weekend HERE and HERE
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-25 I got another opportunity to head up to the Skagit today to shoot the incoming birds. So far, it looks like the peregrines are out in force, and there are plenty of red tails, kestrels, and eagles around too. The rough-legged hawks and owls aren't back yet.

This is a collage of a couple of the peregrine falcons we saw today. The pictures surrounding the main picture were a fight that we observed between two falcons. Not sure why, but it was pretty vicious. If only the light had been a bit better, these would've been some absolutely stunning pictures! (our motto of the day...). It will need to be viewed as big as possible to see any of what's going on in the surrounding shots.

Other shots from today are HERE.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-24 I went looking for some birds (cooper's hawks specifically) this morning and didn't have any luck whatsoever. I've been told they are at a particular spot every day, but no luck for me today.

To make up for it though, I was able to get some great shots (IMHO) of my nephew's soccer game. This is one of our friend's kids - Kaelin (sp?). Everyone was feeling good after an early goal despite not keeping score.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-23 I had some spare time (yay!) after work, so I decided to work on my fear of photographing people. No one likes their picture taken, and I know this. On the other hand, part of the reason is usually that photos don't come out very well. Hopefully, if folks see the final result, they won't mind so much. I posted this one as my 'official' daily today because it jumped out at me much more than any of the others.

Post - I added a bit of film grain because it's hard to force the D700 to do it. I also added a bit of vignette, and a bit of contrast, while dropping the saturation just a bit (to offset the contrast bump).

Happy puppy, great place for a run (Alki).
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-22 I love when the water droplets bead perfectly on the colorful leaves. This shot is straight out of the camera. The only thing I might do differently next time is try a starburst filter to see if any of the beads of water would twinkle.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-21 I got a bit creative today after seeing a tip from the Nikon site. This is a dual exposure raw file, blended together in camera! I wandered around for a bit trying to get the leaves falling, but this seemed to work better :D.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-20 One more from the weekend. This buidling looked fake in the photo as in real life.

Richard - No HDR...it was sunny behind me, and stormy behind the building! I love it when that happens.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-19 Another shot from the weekend. I still love this effect for the old and beaten down.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-18 I posted a couple shots from this weekend's trip to the Skagit for some R&R and birding. As of this trip, the snow geese are back in full force, there are a few hawks, and lots of falcons (kestrels and peregrines on this trip). No rough-legged hawks, short-eared owls, nor swans yet. Only a few harriers. The owl area is now over run with hunters. Not sure if the owls will come back with all the racket. Anyway, it was a very nice weekend, and a few good pics.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-18 Another from the weekend. The snow geese looked so clean and white! I saw at least 3 different morphs or stages - one was full white with black tips, this one with the more greyish, and a full brown one with white underbelly. And, they were even where they're supposed to be (in the preserve away from the hunters :D)
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-17 Saturday - we headed up to La Conner for the night. It rained, it poured, then the sun came out and gave a pretty nice sunset. There was also a rainbow somewhere in there. Saw a few falcons on the way in, the snow geese, and a hawk or two. Sunday should be promising for birds.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-16 I went for a drive after work. I love the effect of the fog and the fall colors on the sloppy road. It was raining too much to shoot anything else.

Busy day at work. Very productive though! I finished a report, and got a set of tests ready for review.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-15 This is another shot form my walk yesterday. The house is a 'here today gone tomorrow' kind of candidate which is what originally caught my attention. I didn't have enough zoom to catch the sort of details I wanted of the house, but the flowers were pretty cool in my opinion.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 10-14 I grabbed my camera after work because I'm no longer painting! And, it's been raining. Anyway, I was looking for foliage, and fall colors. For some reason I ended up on the beach, and saw this poor guy working to rescue is sailboat along with the guys in the Lund. Unfortunately, it didn't look like anyone had any good ideas....may be too late for that sort of thing.
