Jeff Lynch Photography > 2010 01-17 We made a trip up to see grandpa today. Two of my favorite people sharing a beautiful moment. Now that's a beautiful thing.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-29 Congrats to my dad for finishing the Seattle 1/2 marathon! And also to my sister in law and brother for doing the full marathon! Hopefully, once things calm down a bit, I'll get back to training.

This is another shot of little Ashley. Doesn't she look cute and serene? This was about 30 seconds before she went balistic. My ears are still ringing.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 03-30 This little guy was bouncing in and out of the branches, but paused and posed. I wandered around the Renton Riparian area for an hour today, watched the herons coming & going (always outside the range & light for a decent shot), and the hawk circling overhead (way too far away for a shot). For my efforts, I ended up with one good shot of a bushtit. Sorry, that's the only name I've seen for it :-D
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 04-23 This one combines my two new favorite techniques - motion blur and a black & white mask with the color cut-out for the rider. And, of a bike race to boot. This week I was able to hang on until the finish of the race, although it seemed like they were taking it pretty easy going up the hill.

All the motion blur was done in camera using shutter priority. I've found that somewhere around 1/40-1/50 will give me a bit of a blur, but still pretty good odds of getting something to turn out if I take a series of one rider passing by.

Updates - Thanks for all the comments! The shot was taken by panning along with the rider at a shutter speed of 1/40 in shutter priority. Panning with the rider will blur the background, and if the pan is perfectly in sync with the passing rider, the rider is in focus. Success rate seems to be about 1 in 5-7 for this shutter speed. I usually put this on continuous-high for the shot selection, and take as many as possible as the chosen rider passes by (usually 5-7 shots). I didn't realize there was photoshop trick for doing it, and I always prefer to do things for real when possible. The only photoshopping is the selective coloring. Jeff Lynch Photography > 2010 01-12 We got together with our neighbors who brought their 4-week-old, and their two year old over for some pizza and photos. It was a great opportunity to get to know each other, and meet one another's newest additions. For me, it was also a great portfolio builder for the newborns and toddlers. Dora was such an awesome model! By the end of the night, she was smiling, and showing off her beautiful eyes. However, this shot is from the beginning of the night when she wasn't sure about any of the bright lights shining on her.

Her expression and hair crack me up every time I come across this shot when reviewing this session.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-12 Our due date has come, and gone. Now the countdown to baby time begins the overtime period.

This is the second of my daily double. I took this early in the day, thinking I'd have nothing to shoot. Since I don't like shooting myself, I though more post processing was in order...guess I got carried away :D.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2010 02-07 This is by far the best shot I've gotten of an American Kestrel in flight. These guys are really skitterish, and usually don't hang around long enough to get even a half way decent shot. This gal was kind enough to oblige on a sunny day nonetheless!!!

The rest of the set is HERE
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2009 11-21 As expected, my dailies have taken on a whole new meaning. This shot is of my grandfather (baby's great grandfather) and my daughter on her second day of life. These are two of the most beloved people in my life, and having them spend some quality time together meant more than I can express in words.
Jeff Lynch Photography > 2010 01-13 My first 2010 daily double. I spent a couple more hours processing last night's session. This one is a bit more peaceful and happy Dora than yesterday's. Some days I'm not too happy with my daily offering. Others, I have an abundance of pictures that I'd like to share. This series is definitely the latter.

Guy - please shoot me an email at jefflynch35_at_hotmail_dot_com. Here's a bit - I used a 50mm f/1.4 lens. I was shooting at 1.8 and have my shapening turned down typically. For post, I used lightroom to turn this B&W. I may have also turned the "clarity" down a bit as well. I added black to get completely rid of the background. This also made her eyes jump out. Hope that helps.
